The latest generation of the Ford F-150—the first pickup of its ilk to employ aluminum skin—has really taken off and been selling like hot cakes. With more best-in-class and class-exclusive nods than we can shake a stick at, it’s no wonder this half-tonner has retained its place as America’s favorite pickup. But in that, we have some good news: the one thing this truck has been missing is coming to market.

If you’ve been wondering when a diesel engine would make it to the F-150, the answer is summer 2018. At this year’s Detroit Auto Show, Ford took the wraps off the new model, which will come with a Powerstroke Turbodiesel V6 mated to the new ten-speed automatic transmission. Other new goodies include an updated 2.7-liter EcoBoost, all-new naturally aspirated 3.3-liter V6, seven all-new grille designs, and more.
