The Ford Expedition has always been one of the heaviest-hauling SUVs out there. With its body-on-frame construction and rear-wheel drive, it's a truck on the inside. After a long-awaited overhaul, the 2018 Expedition will boast even more towing power than ever, earning the distinction of being best in its class.

Its SAE-certified maximum trailering capacity is now 9,300 pounds, a 100-pound improvement over previous iterations. Contributing to this improved number is the fact that it has swapped from a steel body to aluminum. Just like the F-150, the Expedition's aluminum body maintains its resistance to dents and dings, while being 300 pounds lighter.

"Obviously there's a lot more weight savings when you go from steel to aluminum than that, but we reinvested it in increasing the passenger carrying capacity, as well as some other capabilities we put into the vehicles," said Craig Patterson, Ford Utility Marketing Manager, at the Expedition's Chicago Auto Show reveal.

The fully-redesigned 2018 Expedition will arrive in dealerships like Shottenkirk Ford this fall.
