While European drivers have long favored fuel-efficient minicars, the U.S. has always followed a "bigger is better" philosophy. Back in the mid-2000s, rising gas prices forced many Jasper drivers turned to smaller models like the Ford Fiesta.

Gas prices are down again, however, and automakers have seen a surge in sales for larger SUVs and trucks.
